A Star for Resolutions
Delivered: 1/2/2005 |
|
|
|
Old Testament: Isaiah 60:1-6
New Testament: Matthew 2:1-12
Outline:
Epiphany means 'to show', 'to be manifest'.
Observance of the day focuses on:
the baptism of Jesus (manifesting his Sonship)
the miracle at Cana (manifesting his Power)
the visit of the Magi (manifesting his Kingship)
An epiphany is an occasion of enlightenment.
Isaiah announced the coming of the Light of God
to the People of God
so they might reflect the Truth of God
& attract the nations of the world to God.
For Matthew, the Magi symbolized 'the nations'.
The Magi represented those who open their lives
to the Light of God.
Epiphany reminds us to look for & respond to
opportunities to be enlightened
by the Light of God's Presence
for the doing of God's Purpose. |
